The Duck Pond, Haverford College

Haverford College is a private school located in the outskirts on Philadelphia, and is known for its excellent liberal arts curriculum. Students take advantage of Haverford’s participation in the Tri-College Consortium, which allows them to take courses at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges. Through the ‘Penn-Pal’ arrangement, students can also venture into the city and take courses at the University of Pennsylvania. Haverford’s traditional emphasis is on a rich curriculum and on undergraduate involvement in faculty research; all students are required to complete a senior thesis. An honor code adopted in 1896 governs academic affairs, and allows students to schedule their exams at their convenience. Just about the entire undergraduate student body resides on campus, which is the oldest collegiate arboretum in the United States. Haverford also has a rich history of collegiate athletics, and boasts the only varsity cricket team in the country.
