Rice University, College Profile, Best Colleges
Rice University

Rice University was opened in 1912 after the murder of its namesake, William March Rice, and has become a prominent center of cutting-edge research and undergraduate excellence. With a low student to faculty ratio that rivals that of the Ivy League universities, Rice makes sure that its undergraduate students have access to faculty throughout their academic coursework and research activities. The Rice Honor Code is unique in the way it governs academic affairs, as professors tend to give unproctored, take-home exams. Students must sign On my honor, I have neither given nor received any unauthorized aid on this (examination, quiz or paper). before taking an assignment home. Sitting on over 300 acres of wooded land, Rice is close to Houston’s museum district and provides students a picturesque alternative to the adjoining metropolitan area. Rice practices need-blind admission, meets 100 percent of students’ demonstrated need, and is consistently heralded as one of the best values in higher education.
