Pomona College was founded in 1887 with the idea of creating a ‘New England Type’ college on the west coast. The founding member of the Claremont Colleges and a private, liberal arts institution, Pomona works closely with schools in the surrounding area to provide students with one of the best liberal arts educations available. With humble roots, a donated incomplete hotel was the first building, Pomona has growth to occupy a 140 acre campus with almost 60 buildings. Pomona offers students the close interaction with professors of a small liberal arts college with the resources of a major university, as they are free to take courses at any of the seven Claremont Colleges. With an enviable location just outside Los Angeles and a short drive from the Pacific Ocean and the Mojave Desert, students can spend time in the great outdoors, or take advantage of the incredible cultural offerings that only a city like LA can offer.
