College of William and Mary, public ivies, best colleges
College of William and Mary

Founded in 1693, The College of William and Mary is the second oldest institution of higher learning in the country, and includes Thomas Jefferson and 16 signers of the Declaration of Independence among its alumni. While it is a public research university, the College of William and Mary strives to provide an excellent undergraduate experience through small student to faculty ratios and a dedicated faculty passionate about teaching. All students recite the honor code established by Thomas Jefferson in 1779: As a Member of the William & Mary community I pledge, on my Honor, not to lie, cheat, or steal in either my academic or personal life. I understand that such acts violate the Honor Code and undermine the community of trust of which we are all stewards. Students flock to the College of William and Mary for its excellent academic reputation as an original ‘public ivy’, illustrious history and accomplished alumni, beautiful setting in Williamsburg Virginia and its reputation as one of the best value universities in the country.
